How to create new training modules

We use a program called Wix to manage our smilingdentallearninglibrary.ca website.

Each training module is actually a blog page on the site.

When it makes sense, you can use these headlines as an introduction to your topic:

ONE SENTENCE SUMMARY:

BEST CASE SCENARIO IF WE ARE ALL 100% CONFIDENT:

WORST CASE SCENARIO IF SOME OF US ARE NOT 100% CONFIDENT:

WHAT DOES “100% CONFIDENT” MEAN?

For some training modules, like this one, adding the intro section with the above headlines doesn't help the reader understand what we are trying to do, so I skipped it.

Here's a video on how to add and edit blog posts in Wix:

How to Record Videos

Loom is the easiest right now. There are some downsides though:

  1. You can not edit the video - sometimes I cut out parts that didn’t make sense, or I re-do parts to make it more clear.

  2. You can not add “cursor effects” - I like to add the yellow highlight over the mouse to make it easier to follow

  3. All of your videos are owned by Loom. So there is a chance that one day Loom goes out of business, or changes their business model, and all of your videos will be gone.

  4. There is a time limit on videos. Not that big of a deal, because you can just make 2 short videos instead of 1 long one.

I use a program called Camtasia instead. Only because I have it on my computer from a long time ago. The benefit is that it fixes all the above problems with Loom. The downside is we have to pay for it. IF this takes off and we end up doing a LOT of these videos, it makes sense to buy some more copies of Camtasia and switch to that instead of Loom.

How to Upload Videos to Youtube

If you don't want to use Loom, you can use your camera phone or a screen capture program like Camtasia to create videos. And then you can upload these videos to Youtube.

(You might need permission to log into Youtube as an admin to upload videos. Ask Mike if you need access.)

Here are the settings to change when you upload to Youtube:

  1. Set the PLAYLIST to STAFF

  2. Check the box that says NO, NOT MADE FOR KIDS

  3. And under VISIBILITY and SAVE OR PUBLISH, select UNLISTED
